Itinerary 1 - The Kingdom of the Zulu - KwaZulu-Natal Zululand

August 18 -- Arrive in Johannesburg to be greeted by a Prowler Safari representative. Once the group is collected we will transfer to De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Centre. Spend this evening in DeWildt's private Guest Lodge and enjoy what is likely to be one of the best meals of your life and get some much needed rest and a nice shower/bath to recover from your long flight to Africa!

August 19 -- Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast before a tour of DeWildt's breeding and research facility. This tour offers a wonderful insight to the world of not only the cheetah, but the endangered wild dog, brown hyena, serval, suni antelope, blue and red duiker, bontebok, riverine rabbit and vultures - including the very rare Egyptian vulture. You will walk away knowing you are helping and will be more educated on the importance of the conservation efforts facilities like these are making on your behalf.

Transfer to the airport for a domestic flight to Durban, South Africa. Durban is a lovely European city known around the world as a true surfer's paradise and ranks among the world's finest in marine wildlife diversity. Here you will have a lovely dinner at the famous Razzmatazz Restaurant, enjoy spectacular views (and a swim if you like) of the Indian Ocean.

August 20 through 23 -- Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Reserve. Established in 1895, Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve is the oldest game park in Africa and is the only under formal conservation in KwaZulu Natal where the Big 5 occur. Set in the heart of Zululand, the game reserve offers visitors some 96,000 ha (hectares) of wildlife viewing containing an immense diversity of fauna and flora. It became world renowned for its white rhino conservation.

August 23 through 26 -- After a lovely breakfast and slow drive out of the reserve get ready for a bit or paradise, up close and personal. This is the walking portion of the safari. Phinda Walking Safaris offer an exhilarating walking adventure in Phinda's pristine wilderness, guaranteeing an exceptional and interpretive South African wildlife safari experience.

Nothing can compare to seeing the incredible natural beauty of Phinda Private Game Reserve on foot. The lush forests, pristine bushveld and captivating vleis are alive with birdsong, insects and the sounds of the South African bush. Discover the adrenaline rush of encountering animals on foot whilst enjoying a three- to five-hour morning walk, and short pre-sunset walk and night-drive combination. August 26 through 28 -- After your morning walk transfer to Phinda's Zuka Lodge where safari meets luxury. Intimate exclusive-use Lodge: Surrounded by densely wooded hills and lush valleys, Phinda Zuka Lodge is situated in the western region of Phinda where, in what was a triumph for CC Africa's conservation endeavors, fences were dropped after protracted negotiations with neighbors, increasing the Reserve by 3,500 hectares (8,650 acres).

Meaning sixpence in Zulu, Zuka Lodge offers guests a new experience of Phinda's pristine wilderness. The Lodge's four intimate cottages are set 15 meters (50 feet) apart, featuring verandas overlooking a busy waterhole where a diversity of wildlife is regularly seen. Bedrooms have air-conditioning and fans and are en suite, with a circular stone bath chamber, double showers, separate w.c and twin hand basins.

Food, wine and safari...

August 28 -- After a morning drive and breakfast you have will say your good byes to the magic of the South African Bush and head back to the Johannesburg to catch your flight home.

Visit Cape Point, the continent of Africa's most southern point, or enjoy a day at the beach watching jack ass penguins and swimming in the warm Indian Ocean. This area is also well know for its fine dining and world class wineries. For those of you up for a challenge, climb Table Mountain and enjoy the view.

About the Accommodations: There is no "roughing it" on this trip! All of the rooms are equipped with a full shower, toilet and bed. Africa is a dream trip and for many of us a once in a lifetime experience; it is the goal of Prowler Safaris to make sure that you are enchanted by your experience with Mother Africa.

$4,700 per person/double occupancy.

Add $375 for single supplement. (We may be able to pair you up with another same-sex single if you would like.)

This is all inclusive. Everything will be covered except your international airfare. Including: All meals, lodging, transfers, domestic flights, camp and reserve fees, and taxes. Tips are at your discretion, we often pool our money to tip the rangers and trackers, but you can give what you are comfortable with -- you are not obligated to tip.

25% ($1,125) is required to reserve (non-refundable). The balance is due by June 1, 2010. Check or credit cards are acceptable.

You will be picked up and dropped off at Johannesburg Airport in South Africa (arriving August 18, departing August 28). Again, special arrangements can be made if you would like to take a side trip. Contact us for more information.
